He's Here

Brady Levi Jones made his grand entrance into this world yesterday, June 3, 2008 at 4:09 pm. He weighed 7 lbs and 10 oz and is 20 inches long. He is doing great and couldn't be any better. Brady was born on his due date - which is the case for only 5% of all babies, so we think that was pretty cool.

My total labor was 41 hours. I made it the first 35 hours without the epidural, but the pain got to be untolerable and I was really tired, so we decided to get the epidural and I finished out the last 6 hours with that.

Here's the full story: I started having contractions on Sunday morning at 2:30 am, but they were about 25-30 minutes apart at that time, so we're not counting that as acutal labor. I had contractions all Sunday (the ones sitting in church are the most memorable - LOL) but they were really far apart and not too strong.  Really, things started to pick up Sunday night at 11 pm and that's where we start the 41 hours. I labored at home all night Sunday and Monday and then finally decided to come to the hospital on Monday night at 11 pm.

My water finally broke at 5:30 Tuesday morning and then things started to move a little faster. Unfortunately, I just wasn't progressing fast enough and after the water brakes, the baby has to be delivered within a certain time. So, they started pitocin (it's a medicine that they use to induce labor) but Brady did not respond very well to the pitocin. His heartrate dropped several times, my blood pressure got dangerously low and I had to be put on oxygen for Brady.

So, things were not looking good and the doctor ordered an emergency c-section. The surgery went well and Brady came out a very strong and healthy baby. I am healing from surgery pretty good and we are all just trying to catch up on some sleep now.

We are at Centennial Medical Center in Frisco (Room 2276) and should get to go home on Friday or possibly Saturday afternoon.

Lance and I are beside ourselves. Brady is the most perfect thing ever - the feeling is just unexplainable. I'll post some more pictures soon, but here are a few to get started.
