Babies 101

Who said babies don't come with instruction manuals? Whoever it was, surely hasn't been to baby class lately. OK - I'm not that naive, I know there is still plenty of stuff that we don't have a clue about, but we do feel alot better now after being to class the past 4 weeks.

We just finished up 2 series of classes. The longest was "Prepared Childbirth" class, which lasted 4 weeks and then there was also "Infant CPR/Baby Care" class, which lasted 2 weeks. We are SO glad we took the classes, we learned so much stuff that we would have never known before. I mean we learned CPR, the heimlich maneuver, car seat safety, baby proofing the house, how to swadle, how to know when I'm going into labor, what to do during labor, all the different things that might happen during labor, what to expect if we have an epidural (and all about other pain management options), what to expect if we have a c-section, what to expect after the baby is born, what those nurses do with the baby after he's born, I could go on and on forever! Now, the only thing we have to do is retain all that information :)

Not only did we learn stuff that any parent could use, but we learned alot of "insider" information about our hospital. One of the nurses is the lady who taught the class and she gave us alot of good info about who to ask for this and be sure you get your free that, etc. I feel bad for couples who haven't been to class, otherwise, how would they know about things like the free concierge service? Yes, I said free concierge service. You can have them go change the oil in your car, or go pick up dinner from La Hacienda and bring it to you, anything you want! Can you believe that?

Anyway, having been to those classes just reminds us how close we are to having a baby. It still sounds crazy to think about that, and we've had 8 1/2 months to get used to the idea. We are having maternity portraits taken on Friday, so I'll be posting some pictures soon!
