My Poor Baby

Brady is sick :( I knew it would happen at some point, but I just didn't realize it would be the first week! Actually, the doctor said he probably got it on the first day as it takes a couple of days after he came in contact with the virus for the symptoms to actually show up.

On Thursday, I went to down to visit Brady at lunch and I noticed that he didn't feel good. So, I decided to bring him home early. That evening was very scary. He had so much congestion that he chocked on it and couldn't breathe. Luckily, I was able to get to him really fast and helped him cough it out. He did it a 2nd time 10 minutes later and that is when I decided it was time to go to the Emergency Clinic. They checked him out and took some blood (which was the worst part, it took them 45 minutes and 3 sticks before they found one of his tiny veins).

The diagnosis was Croup. With Croup, it makes the throat inflamed and restricts the airflow. With Brady being so young, his airway is already small, so the inflamation made it worse and that is why he was chocking. They gave him a steriod that helped with the inflamation and some tylenol for his fever and sent us home.

He is doing good now but he still doesn't feel good. He is still congested, coughing, sneezing and has a runny nose but the fever has subsided. We thought he was doing much better and took him to church tonight, but he took a turn for the worse while we were there, so we came home early. The doc said that it is always worse at night, so I guess we thought he was better, but then night time came and it started up again.

Anyway, we're not real sure what we are going to do about daycare. Please pray for us that God will guide us on this important decision.

Meet Ms. Kala

Ms. Kala is going to be Brady's caregiver at daycare (we start on Monday). She is a really sweet lady. She has her bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Development and next semester she is going to start on her Master's degree because her ultimate goal is to open her own day care. She has been taking care of babies for 12 years and seems to really enjoy it.
I went to visit the center with Brady on Wednesday, I started crying the moment we walked in the door. I mean it's a great daycare, but the thought of leaving him breaks my heart. For those of you who don't know, this day care is part of JCPenney and it is right there on-site. I am thankful that I have that avaliable because I'll be able to feed Brady throughout the day and go visit him anytime. Ms. Kala is so sweet, she tells me to come down anytime and stay as long as I want (hmm, I wonder what my boss will think about that?) She says she's had moms who stay the whole first day down there and do nothing but cry and she is just fine with that and says she'll even cry with me.
BUT, even the best day care or nanny in the whole wide world would not make me feel any better about going back to work on Monday. I want to be the one to take care of him, I want to be the one to teach him things, I want to witness all of his "firsts". Maybe if I'm lucky I will be able to be a SAHM (thats Stay-at-Home Mom) one day.

OK, I won't bore everyone with my pity-party anymore (for now). I'll check back in after our first couple of days and let everyone know how it goes. Please be praying for us.

First Road Trip

We ventured out on our first road trip last weekend. We went to Eldorado, Texas (about 45 miles SW of San Angelo), which is where Lance's family (both mom and dad's side) lives. One-way, the trip is 340 miles (about 6 hours). Lucky for us, Stephenville is about mid-way and it's a great chance for us to stop on our old stomping grounds, see some friends and enjoy some of the food we miss so much. Brady did SO good! He really surprises me sometimes - he is just the best baby ever!

We headed out on Friday and we made it from Frisco to Stephenville without stopping. Once we got there, we met our friend Lisa at Pastafina, where all of us filled up our tummy's (including Brady). We then made it all the way to Brady, Texas (of course we had to get a picture of Brady in Brady) where we all stretched our legs and Brady ate again. With the exception of the 2 stops, Brady slept most of the time. When he did wake up and got a little fussy, we just gave him his pacee, turned the radio on some static (not hard to do in the middle of nowhere by the way) and he was out again. Once we got there, we headed to Granny and Pa's house, where they enjoyed meeting their 15th great grandchild.

We spent the night and Lance and his dad got up early to go play in the Annual Eldorado Golf Tournament. Saturday afternoon all the Jones's (Lance's aunts, uncles, cousins and 2nd cousins) came out to Granny and Pa's to meet Brady. It was a great time and Brady did so good. Sunday morning we headed off to church where Brady was a hit - we even got a shout out during the opening announcements :)
Lance and his dad finished up in their golf tournament and we started the drive back at about 7 pm. The drive back was alot like the drive there...2 stops in Brady and Stephenville (eating at Montana's this time) and then home. We got in at about 1:30 am and I think we were all 3 in dreamland by 1:45.

2 Month Checkup

We just got back from Brady's 2 month checkup and the bottom line is....Brady is one healthy boy with a capital "H"! He got an A+ on his report card and is 24 inches long and weighs 14 lbs, 14 oz. That puts him in the 95% for height and & 97% for weight.

The doctor is not concerned about his weight (even though I was a little worried about him), but he said it is common for babies to get pretty chuncky and then they start to lean out as they get taller and start to crawl around and be more active.
He also got his first round of vaccinations today. He only cried for a minute and then he calmed down really fast. Please pray with us that he will be OK. Some of you might know that there is alot of debate and controversy in the media right now about when and what vaccinations to give babies. After all of our research, talking to the doctor and praying about it, we decided to get Brady vaccinated on schedule (the schedule according to the American Academy of Pediatrics). As with anything in life, there are always risks, so we are just relying on our faith that Brady will take the vaccinations with no adverse side affects. He is doing good right now, he's just really sleepy. They also gave him some baby tylenol, so that is making him sleepy too.
That's about it! He is just growing and changing so much and I fall more in love with him everyday.
