Brady is sick :( I knew it would happen at some point, but I just didn't realize it would be the first week! Actually, the doctor said he probably got it on the first day as it takes a couple of days after he came in contact with the virus for the symptoms to actually show up.
On Thursday, I went to down to visit Brady at lunch and I noticed that he didn't feel good. So, I decided to bring him home early. That evening was very scary. He had so much congestion that he chocked on it and couldn't breathe. Luckily, I was able to get to him really fast and helped him cough it out. He did it a 2nd time 10 minutes later and that is when I decided it was time to go to the Emergency Clinic. They checked him out and took some blood (which was the worst part, it took them 45 minutes and 3 sticks before they found one of his tiny veins).
The diagnosis was Croup. With Croup, it makes the throat inflamed and restricts the airflow. With Brady being so young, his airway is already small, so the inflamation made it worse and that is why he was chocking. They gave him a steriod that helped with the inflamation and some tylenol for his fever and sent us home.
He is doing good now but he still doesn't feel good. He is still congested, coughing, sneezing and has a runny nose but the fever has subsided. We thought he was doing much better and took him to church tonight, but he took a turn for the worse while we were there, so we came home early. The doc said that it is always worse at night, so I guess we thought he was better, but then night time came and it started up again.
Anyway, we're not real sure what we are going to do about daycare. Please pray for us that God will guide us on this important decision.

ReplyDelete(I got here from Alyson's blog...) Hey, I wanted to let you know that my Eli (now almost 16 months old) got croup, too, and he stays with my parents while I work. It can be totally scary - and since you wrote this a few days ago - I'm hoping he's better. But, if not, sit with him in the bathroom with a hot shower running. That really helped Eli. Also, we got a battery operated nose sucker thingy (much better than the syringe) and it makes getting stuff out of his nose super easy.
